Trò chơi làm theo bộ phim Land of the Dead, diễn ra trong thời gian bùng phát dịch zombie đầu tiên. Người chơi đảm nhận vai trò của một nông dân tên là Jack, người, một ngày, tìm thấy trang trại của mình bị bao vây bởi các undead.
Land of the Dead: Road to Fiddler’s Green sử dụng lối chơi bắn súng góc nhìn thứ nhất (first-person-shooter) truyền thống. Người chơi có thể sử dụng nhiều loại vũ khí cận chiến hoặc vũ khí để chiến đấu chống lại lũ zombie.
Một số vũ khí có khả năng phá hủy zombie, trong khi các vũ khí khác thì không. Quai hàm, đầu, cánh tay, cánh tay và chân của thây ma có thể bị người chơi bắn hoặc cắt.
Có rất nhiều loại zombie (zombie thông thường, crawlers, puking, screamers , độc, nổ) và mỗi zombie có một số lượng máu khác nhau để giết. Người chơi không thể trở thành một zombie, nhưng người ta nói rằng những người chết vì bất kỳ lý do nào đều trở thành zombie.
